Hygiene and Sanitation Policy
Therapist Hygiene and Sanitation.
All linens and equipment that come in contact with the client will be clean. Before and after each massage the therapist’s hands and forearms will be washed with soapy water and a disinfecting solution. Any breaks in the skin of the massage therapist will be covered with protecive coverings.
Clients are expected to arrive clean. We are not talking about someone who had a shower in the morning and goes to see their therapist after work needing to worry about hygiene. Naturally, the exception to this is if you have a job where you get dirty and sweaty. If it seems you have not bathed the day of or the night before your appointment we will turn you away. We also ask clients to refrain from wearing cologne and perfumes. Our therapy room is a small space and providing treatment for someone wearing strong cologne or perfume is like working in a gas chamber.
The caring is free, however, the service is $50.00 an hour. Payment should be made by cash or check at the time services are rendered. Click here for rates. NSF checks will incur a $30 fee and Key Massage Sessions will not accept checks from any client writing NSF checks.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. What should I expect during my first appointment?
A. Your massage therapist will begin by asking some general health questions, since there are some conditions for which massage is not appropriate. Your massage therapist will then leave the room while you undress and cover yourself with a fresh sheet on the table.
Q. What do I wear?
A. During your massage you will remain discreetly draped at all times. Females typically dress down to their individual comfort level. Males are expected to wear a swim trunks or jogging shorts (no exceptions).
Q. Will a massage hurt?
A. Massage on healthy tissue feels good. The saying "no pain, no gain" does not apply to massage therapy. The most effective and deepest massage works with the body's natural responses, rather than against them. Always tell your massage therapist if you feel any discomfort so your treatment can be adjusted to the right level. Massage to treat a painful injury may cause some discomfort at first, however any discomfort will subside within the next few minutes.
Q. Who will give my massage?
A. Your massage will be given by a professionally trained licensed massage therapist with over 20+ years of experience.
Q. I'm pregnant. Can I still receive a massage?
A. Absolutely! We only ask that you provide written permission from your physician clearing you to receive massage therapy while pregnant. Massage therapy is very beneficial to pregnant women. Benefits include:
Tranquil relaxation and reduced stress.
Relief from muscle cramps, spasms, and myofacial pain, especially in the lower back, neck, hips, and legs.
Increase in blood and lymph circulation, which can reduce swelling.
Reduces stress on weight-bearing joints.
Improves outcome of labor and eases labor pain.
Enhances the pliability of skin and underlying tissues.
Q. How long does a massage last?
A. An hour is the most common length. This is enough time for a deeply relaxing full body massage, or a more in-depth treatment on a particular area, such as back, neck and shoulders.
Alternatively, a half-hour can be an excellent introduction to massage. That will be plenty of time for a partial massage of the back, neck and shoulders, or legs and feet. See our rates page for massage lengths and prices.
